The factors that typically shape a repair-versus-replacement decision are the system’s age, the cost of repair relative to replacement, refrigerant type (older systems may use R-22, which is no longer produced or imported into the United States), and how often the system has needed recent attention. Ductless mini-splits typically last 15 to 20 years with proper maintenance, though real-world lifespan varies depending on usage and conditions. A system near or past that range with a major component failure is often a stronger candidate for replacement. We service older systems and can repair them when repair makes sense, and we’ll tell you honestly when it doesn’t.
